Captain charged over North Sea collision appears at court

Coastguards say there is “no cause for concern” from pollution after two ships collided in the North Sea on Monday.

One mariner is missing, presumed dead, after the Solong container vessel hit a US oil tanker off the Yorkshire coast.

The Solong’s Russian captain appeared before Hull Magistrates Court this morning and was remanded in custody, charged with gross negligence manslaughter.
