The highly anticipated game between India and New Zealand marked Virat Kohli’s 300th ODI match, but it soon turned out to be a heartbreaker for many fans.

New Zealand, historically, have been a thorn to India’s star-studded XI and the same story continued even today, especially when Glenn Phillips pulled a stunning catch to send Virat Kohli back to the dug out.

Bowling the seventh over, Matt Henry bowls a good length ball. Kohli attempts to play towards backward point and Phillips dives towards his right to take a flying catch, sending the ‘king’ for just 11 runs.

This comes after Kohli’s unbeaten century against Pakistan in Dubai last week, which pushed him to the fifth spot in the ICC ODI rankings and made him only the third player to surpass 14,000 runs in 50-over cricket.

The blinder of a catch left spectators, Kohli himself and wife Anushka Sharma in shock.

King Kohli’s stunning stats

Virat Kohli is on the brink of another remarkable achievement in his cricketing career as he approaches a milestone match in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Having already surpassed Ricky Ponting on the all-time run charts, Kohli is now just 149 runs shy of second place, held by Kumar Sangakkara. However, he still trails the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who remains the all-time leader with a staggering 18,426 runs.

In his impressive career spanning 299 ODIs, Kohli has amassed 14,085 runs at an average of 58.20, complemented by a strike rate of 93.41. His remarkable tally includes 51 centuries and 73 half-centuries, with a top score of 193. Kohli has set numerous records as the fastest player to reach various run milestones, including 8,000 runs in just 175 innings and 14,000 runs in 299 innings.
